CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – The Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference concluded its 2024-2025 season on March 2 after two days of competition at this year’s Conference Championship tournament, hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mount Aloysius College completed a sweep of the 2025 Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship Tournament's team and individual titles in their first season as both a program and a conference member.
Saturday, March 1 marked the first day of the championship as competitors took to the firing line for the smallbore match. Six programs competed for a team title: Mount Aloysius College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), S.U.N.Y. Plattsburgh, University of Rhode Island, Norwich University and John Jay College. An additional five athletes representing their institutions in the individual competition were also invited: Cora Anderson and Isabella Evans (Schreiner University), Annabelle Schneider and Alexis McCoy (Coast Guard), and John Bliss (S.U.N.Y. Maritime).
Making up the team podium were Mount Aloysius College (2233) in their inaugural season as an NCAA DIII program, followed by University of Rhode Island (2203) and Norwich University (2176). Winning the individual match was Kayla Trinkle of Mount Aloysius College with a score of 569. Taking second place was University of Rhode Island’s Sophia Wood with a score of 561. MIT freshman Eleanor Yang earned third place, also firing a 561 but falling to Wood by just 2x in the tiebreaker.
The air rifle match was contested the following day, as six teams and 35 individuals competed. Mount Aloysius College, MIT, University of Rhode Island, Norwich University, and John Jay College again fired for the team title, now joined by Schreiner University. Ultimately, Mount Aloysius proved victorious for the second time with a score of 2324, followed by MIT (2262) and University of Rhode Island (2242). For the individual podium, Mount Aloysius College’s Molly Miller fired a 593 to earn the title. She was followed closely by teammate Kayla Trinkle with a 587. Yang once again took third with a score of 582.
Five teams and 20 individuals were also competing for the two-gun aggregate awards. Mount Aloysius College swept both the team and individual titles, with a team aggregate of 4557 and Trinkle’s individual aggregate of 1156. University of Rhode Island earned second place at 4445, with MIT just nine points behind at 4436. Individually Miller won second place (1143-58x) followed by Yang (1143-41x).
At the conclusion of the tournament, the conference's senior athletes were recognized for their dedication and contributions to their programs and the conference. Of note, S.U.N.Y. Maritime senior John Bliss, firing as an individual in both events, finished his collegiate career with an air rifle personal record of 530 (and a ten!).
