SOUTH KINGSTOWN, Rhode Island – The Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference has selected its 2025 Coach of the Year honoree, the University of Rhode Island rifle program Head Coach Dave Wood.
Wood has served as the head coach of the program since its inception in 2023, leading multiple athletes to excel on and off the range at an institutional, conference, and national level. Under his leadership, the program qualified for and placed third at the 2025 Intercollegiate Rifle club National Championships and has placed both as a team and individually at the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship tournament in both years of their participation thus far. Wood has also seen two athletes earn All-Star Team recognition nationally for their high-level performances in addition to multiple conference-level All-MAC athletic and academic selections.
Nominated by his peers, Wood was recognized for his success in launching a competitive program as well as his hard work in securing funding, range time, and travel opportunities for the University of Rhode Island rifle team. His dedication and initiative have played a key role in the team's development and growing local and national presence. Additionally, Wood served on the conference's Executive Committee for the 2024-2025 season in the Member-At-Large role, further highlighting his dedication to the sport and betterment of the student-athlete experience.
