NEW YORK, N.Y.  - The Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference is saddened to announce the passing of past MAC Executive Board Member Vince Maiorino, PhD on June 20, 2026 at age 86. Maiorino was a decorated member of the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference, earning recognition from his peers on multiple occasions in the form of three Coach of the Year honors (2006, 2011, 2017) and the 2010 Robert Ketzner Service Award for exemplary service to collegiate rifle. 

Most recently, he served as Head Coach of the John Jay College rifle program, where he led the Bloodhounds to a program-record 14 MAC Divisional Championship titles during his 17 seasons (2002-2018) at the helm. His final match as Head Coach was the culmination of over a decade of success as the Bloodhounds won their 10th straight Big Apple Championship on December 5th, 2018. For his accomplishments, he was inducted into the 2019 John Jay College Athletics Hall of Fame class.  

Before his tenure at John Jay College, he spent 16 years as Head Coach of the St. John's University rifle program. At St. John's, Maiorino coached twelve NRA All-Americans and led the program to a dozen NCAA National Collegiate Rifle Championship appearances.  He was also an accomplished athlete himself as a New York State Champion.

His reach within the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference extends far beyond his coaching careers at St. John's College and John Jay College, as he spearheaded the MAC Athlete of the Month program to provide recognition of on-range and off-range accomplishments across the conference. He was a dedicated member of the Executive Board, previously serving as Executive Secretary for several years. Between his competitive career and coaching career, Maiorino impacted hundreds of members of the competitive shooting community for over five decades.

He was a mentor who invested in his students, athletes, and friends, always willing to share his knowledge, guidance, and encouragement. Vince dedicated his life to education, coaching, and helping others achieve their potential. His impact reached far beyond the classroom and the firing line, shaping countless lives through his leadership, patience, and unwavering commitment to excellence. I am grateful for the lessons he taught, the friendship he shared, and the example he set. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him," remarks Maiorino's former Assistant Coach, now SUNY Maritime Head Coach, Tom Lacalamita.
