CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – The Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference is set to open its 2025-2026 season this week as MIT and Norwich will face off at Barrofio’s Rifle Range in Northfield, VT on Saturday, October 4th. This pair of rivals has met multiple times yearly since the reinstatement of the Norwich University rifle team several years ago as they fire an annual home-and-home series in addition to both teams taking part in MIT’s annual Beanpot Tournament. The Engineers hold the last win in this rivalry as they fired a 4389 to the Cadets' 4361 in the 2025 edition of the Beanpot Tournament.
A total of 8 programs will compete in the MAC this year: five NCAA Division III teams and three collegiate club teams. Defending Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Champions Mount Aloysius College will open their second conference campaign on Saturday, October 18th as they use their NCAA match at Virginia Military Institute for a postal against the Coast Guard Academy. The Mounties return their full conference-winning 2024-2025 roster after beginning their NCAA season September 20th with a non-conference match at The Ohio State University, firing a score of 4545.
Also on October 18th, Coast Guard will take to the line against University of Rhode Island and MIT in Cambridge, MA. The following weekend will see Schreiner University get started with their MAC slate as they pair their double NCAA match weekend in Colorado Springs with a pair of conference postals against Coast Guard and MIT. Also firing their first conference match of the year that weekend will be John Jay College as they use their tri-match with Virginia Military Institute and Wofford College for a MAC postal against Coast Guard.
The final team to get their season underway will be SUNY Maritime as they head north for their annual double weekend against in-state non-conference rival SUNY Plattsburgh of the Eastern Collegiate Rifle Conference. John Jay College will also host SUNY Maritime for their Senior Day air rifle match on December 6th. Both New York MAC teams will then travel to Cos Cob, CT for a neutral site tri-match with Rhode Island to close out the fall half of the MAC season ahead of the winter holidays.
The spring season opens back up with Rhode Island traveling to Northfield for a shoulder-to-shoulder match against Norwich on January 17th while John Jay, SUNY Maritime, and Coast Guard head to West Point for a neutral site match at Army on January 18th.
February 7th and 8th, MIT will host their annual Beanpot Tournament. Though the competition will primarily feature MAC teams, the University of Akron will make the trek from Ohio to Massachusetts for the chance to take home the beanpot trophy. Also in attendance this year will be Norwich, Coast Guard, and Rhode Island.
The Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship tournament will be held on February 28th and March 1st, 2026 at the MIT Rifle Range in Cambridge, MA. The top six teams by conference play season average in smallbore and air rifle will qualify, as well as an additional five at-large athletes per gun from those programs not selected for the team competition.
